The UK government have opened a consultation on further regulations to the vaping industry, covering the packaging, appearance and retail display of vaping and nicotine products.
The proposals could bring significant changes to how these products look and how they are presented in shops. Read on to find out what the consultation covers, what the proposed changes could mean for you, and how you can share your views.
What does the government consultation involve?
The main aim of the proposed packaging, appearance and display rules is to help discourage underage vaping by making vaping and nicotine products less visually appealing to young people.
The government is seeking views on a range of possible changes to the way vaping and nicotine products are packaged, designed and displayed in shops.
Some of the proposals currently being considered include:
- Restrictions on flavour descriptions, including names associated with sweets, desserts, alcohol and drinks.
- Changes to packaging, including restrictions on colours, branding, imagery and overall design.
- Changes to the appearance of vape devices, including their colours, branding, imagery, lights and display screens.
- Restrictions on retail displays, covering where and how vaping and nicotine products can be displayed in shops across the UK.
The consultation also looks at how these requirements could apply to different types of vaping and nicotine products, as well as how any new rules could be introduced and enforced.
