INTRODUCTION

Hi all, Josh here with another pod kit to review! This time we're looking at a leap forward for Voopoo, introducing their latest Argus Air pod kit. This device takes a different approach unlike their Drag S or Drag X as with the Argus Air, Voopoo have left their PnP pod tank behind and opted for a completely new design, however still utilising their very popular PnP coils.

Voopoo have really blown 2020 out of the water with their full range of latest kits, although with some serious competition across the board, especially with pod kits, do Voopoo live up to the expectations with their latest launch or does this latest pod kit fall behind?

First Impressions

On first impressions of the Argus Air Pod Kit, you can definitely tell from the look and feel that this is a Voopoo product. Continuing their trend of leather combined with a zinc alloy material which went down excellently with their Drag S and Drag X. The way that they have stitched the leather gives a great classic feel which pays homage to the original Geekvape Aegis line. I think this is mostly to my review being on the black kit which is black with orange stitching which is somewhat the colours of Geekvape.

The fire buttons sit nice and flush in the zinc alloy metal of the case and they are very clicky with no rattling throughout. My only slight disappointment was the button seemed to be made from a plastic as opposed to the zinc metal found on the rest of the device, I personally think devices, pod kits in particular look and feel better with a metal fire button if the rest of the device is too.

The screen on the Argus Air is rather tiny, although it's big enough to display the information that's required. By having this smaller screen, it allows for the pod kit to be as slimmed down as possible making the device very pocket friendly.

One downside for me personally with Voopoo making their device as compact as possible, they have not included a + & - button on their pod kit. Although the buttons are not their, the same options are still possible, it will just take you a little longer to get around the device to get to the settings you require to change;

• Turn On = Press Fire Button Five Times Consecutively
• Enter Menu= While on, Press Fire Button Five Times Times Consecutively
• Navigate the Menu = Press the Fire Button to Move Down the Menu
• Select Menu Item = Navigate to Item Then Press and Hold the Fire Button for Two Seconds
• Change Power Settings = Press fire button Three Times Consecutively, Then Press the Fire Button to go up in Power and Loop Back Down to 5W

The Argus Air utilises the Voopoo Gene chip as found in their their Drag S and Drag X. I personally really love this chip as it fires up nice and quickly through both button and draw activated puffs. One thing I did seem to notice is that I felt I got a stronger hit from the button activated draw, although I think this could be just in my head as on paper there should be no difference.

The device includes a 900mAh battery which keeps up well, although this is not as big as some batteries found in a few latest pod kits from other manufacturers, Voopoo have done really well with this to keep their device very compact. Although it may be a slightly smaller battery, the Argus Air utilises Type-C charging which charges the kit in close to one hour! As I've mentioned in my latest reviews, it's nice to see USB-C becoming the new standard in the vaping industry, especially when the latest EU laws are making smartphone companies also follow suit.. Imagine a world where you'd only need one charging cable!

One highlight with the Argus Air is the inclusion of two pods straight out the box, but what's the difference and how do they vape? Let's take a more in depth look...

POD & How It Vapes

As mentioned, the Argus Air Pod Kit comes with two pods straight out the box, both being different in their own unique ways. One pod being disposable with a built in 1.2ohm Mouth To Lung (MTL) coil, with the other created for replaceable PnP coils which I really love as Voopoo have really given you complete freedom and choice to vape just how you like by removing as many limitations as possible!

The pods do have transparency so e-liquid levels can be easily observed whilst also having a decent tint to their plastic to create a sleek and stylish design. With a large fill port on the side of the pod, refilling is easy and the pod itself clicks properly into the device with no problems or rattling. Placing the pod into the device is the most interesting part, depending on the direction you place the pod depends on the airflow you get. Although this is great and very innovative, I personally think they still had room for an adjustable airflow ring. But how do these pods vape? ...

1.2ohm Disposable Pod

The disposable 0.8ohm is perfectly made for MTL vaping, although the semi-restricted draw may feel a little loose for some I personally really enjoyed it as I prefer a slacker vape in general. Although it is not too clear what the maximum wattage of this coil is, the Argus Air only allows this coil to go up to 18W.

I tested these pods with Cola Ice nic salts by Dinner Lady and the vape was a pleasant journey throughout. At the bottom end of 5W, the flavour production is rather low but I could still taste the cola coming through the ice creating a similar limited cloud much like that of a cigarette.

It's not until 12W that the true flavour of the e-liquid really comes to life. At this wattage, the flavour is excellent throughout whilst not flooding the mouth with vapour production, this felt much like the draw you would take on a cigarette with the cola and ice being perfectly combined for a very pleasant vape.

At maximum setting at 18W, I found the perfect vape. This wattage created an all round beautiful mouth full vaping experience with adequate vapour production too, especially for a MTL pod! The cola was perfectly combined with the ice on the inhale, separating excellently on the exhale. 18W was definitely the sweet spot for me, it's just a shame it couldn't go slightly higher as I think it could have got even better.

0.6ohm PnP Coil

The 0.6ohm PnP coil that comes with this pod kit is recommended to be used between 20W-25W with the device auto placing the wattage to 22W. Again to keep the review fair, I used Cola Ice nic salts by Dinner Lady for this coil.

Starting down at 18W with the smallest airflow selected I got a hint of cola through the ice with very small vapour production; With the wider airflow selected I got a pleasant cola taste which spread across the back of the mouth with a decent ice exhale at the end.

It wasn't until 25W that the flavour jumped up a notch. I got an improved taste spreading throughout the vape with adequate vapour production but nothing spectacular. It appears this coil is made more for DTL and works exactly as I expected. I really love the PnP coils on any device I've tested.

Refilling the Pod

The Voopoo Argus Air pod kit comes with the two pods, only one being refillable which is very easy to do;

• Remove the refillable pod from the device
• Gently open silicon bung on the side of pod
• Add your favourite e-liquid from Royal Flush Vape
• Re-fit silicon bung and clean any excess e-liquid
• Place pod back into device which ever preference of airflow you like

Final Thoughts

Overall Voopoo have definitely taken a different direction with their pod kits. In addition to maintaining their leather stitching and high quality feel, I think they have really done well with innovating there new pod airflow design although I would have personally loved to see a fully adjustable airflow ring. The option of utilising their PnP coils is also another great feature to allow full customisation regarding how you vape.

Although the battery size isn't as large as other pod kits, the device is very compact making it very lightweight and pocket friendly whilst also utilising the Type-C charging which can be fully charged in less that an hour. I'm personally very impressed with this kit as it's different than others, not only for Voopoo but for all manufactures as a whole.
