What Is E-Liquid?
E-liquid (also known as vape juice or vape liquid) is the flavoured liquid used in all vape devices. When heated by your device’s coil inside the pod or tank, it turns into vapour — which is what you inhale when vaping.
What’s Inside E-liquid?
Most e-liquids are made up of four core ingredients:
Propylene Glycol (PG)
Vegetable Glycerine (VG)
Food-Grade Flavourings
Nicotine (optional)
Distilled Water
Nicotine isn’t essential — many people gradually reduce their strength over time, with some choosing completely nicotine-free options.
What Is PG and VG?
PG and VG are the base liquids that carry both flavour and (if included) nicotine, while also producing vapour.
Propylene Glycol (PG)
A thin, colourless liquid that:
- Carries flavour very effectively
- Produces a stronger throat hit (similar to smoking)
- Works best in lower-powered devices like pod kits
Vegetable Glycerine (VG)
A thicker, slightly sweet liquid that:
- Produces dense vapour clouds
- Feels smoother on the inhale
- Is ideal for sub ohm (DTL) vaping
Most e-liquids use a blend of both — this is known as the PG/VG ratio, and it plays a big role in how your vape feels.
Understanding PG/VG Ratios
The ratio of PG to VG affects flavour, vapour production and how the liquid performs in your device.
- 50/50 (PG/VG) — A balanced mix offering good flavour and a moderate throat hit. Ideal for beginners and MTL kits.
- 60/40 (VG/PG) — Slightly more vapour with a smoother inhale, suited to RDL vaping.
- 70/30 or higher VG — Designed for larger clouds and smoother draws. Best used in sub-ohm (DTL) devices.
What Are the Different Types of E-Liquid?
Nicotine Salts (Nic Salts)
Nicotine salts provide a smoother throat hit and are absorbed more quickly by the body.
Best for:
- New vapers
- Those wanting quick nicotine satisfaction
- Pod kits and MTL devices
Freebase Nicotine
This is the traditional form of nicotine used in e-liquids. It delivers a stronger throat hit and absorbs more slowly.
Best for:
- Former smokers who want a familiar feel
- Users who prefer a more noticeable throat hit
- MTL devices
Shortfills
Shortfills are larger bottles of nicotine free e-liquid (usually 50ml or 100ml) with space left to add a nicotine shot.
Best for:
- Sub ohm (DTL) vapers
- Those who want control over nicotine strength
- Higher VG vaping
Vaping Styles & Choosing the Right E-Liquid
MTL (Mouth to Lung)
A tighter draw that mimics smoking — vapour is drawn into the mouth first, then inhaled.
Best choices:
- 50/50 e-liquids
- Nic salts (5–20mg)
- Freebase nicotine
RDL (Restricted Direct Lung)
A middle ground between MTL and DTL with a looser inhale and balanced vapour.
Best choices:
- 50/50 or 60/40 blends
- Nic salts or freebase
- Medium resistance coils
DTL (Direct to Lung)
A deep inhale straight to the lungs, producing large clouds and strong flavour.
Best choices:
- High VG e-liquids (70%+)
- Shortfills
- Low nicotine (typically 3mg or less)
Choosing the Right Nicotine Strength
Your ideal strength often depends on how much you used to smoke:
For MTL Kits
- 1–5 cigarettes/day — 3mg freebase or 5mg nic salts
- 5–10/day — 6mg freebase or 10mg salts
- 10–20/day — 12mg freebase or 20mg salts
- 20+ — 18mg freebase
For Sub Ohm (DTL) Kits
- 1–20/day — 3mg
- 20+ — 6mg
Yes. Most e liquids have a shelf life of 12–24 months. Proper storage away from heat and sunlight helps maintain flavour and nicotine strength.
Absolutely. Many vapers blend complementary flavours such as fruit and menthol or dessert and tobacco. Just keep VG/PG ratios similar for best results.
Yes. Nicotine free (0mg) vape liquids deliver the same flavour and cloud experience without any nicotine hit.
Push down and twist — all bottles are child-resistant and TPD-compliant for safety.
- Light smokers: 3–6mg
- Average smokers: 10–12mg
- Heavy smokers: 18–20mg or nic salts
Keep bottles tightly sealed, upright, and stored in a cool, dark cupboard. Avoid direct sunlight or extreme heat.
